GOOGLE , YAHOO , WIKI




















GOOGLE:



Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who were graduate students from Stanford University. They founded Google in 1998. Page and Brin had between working since 1996 on search engine, which would search for information on the web and locate sites which provide that information . They called first engine ‘BackRub’. With the encouragement of Yahoo!
Co founder David Filo, They decided to start company in 1998. Google was established on September 7 , 1998. It grew quickly . Google’s effectiveness and relevance, speed, and its liability increase in the number of visitors to the Google site.


Google Mistake

When the founders of Google were searching for name for their new search engine, they thought of googol. However when one of them was checking to see if the name was taken he typed ‘Google’ and made the most famous spelling mistake in the history of the internet!


YAHOO ! :


David Filo and Jerry Yang Started to Yahoo. Stanford University Students.
They started it to keep track of their personal on the internet, and called it ‘jerry and David’s guide to the World Wide Web ‘. The name was later changed to Yahoo! Before long hundreds of people were using their guide as word spread from friends to friends. Yahoo quickly gained a significant loyal audience throughout the closely-knit Internet community.

Yahoo! Is the No 1 internet brand globally, and reaches the largest audience worldwide. Most important of all, Yahoo has evolved into a global brand that has changed the way people communicate with each other find and access information.

Wiki(Quick)Pedia :

Jimmy Wales founder of Wikipedia. Wikipedia, is a free online encyclopedia. The name is made up of the Hawaiian word for quick, ‘wiki’,and ‘encyclopedia’ . You can refer to wikipedia in over 200 languages. The lack of language barriers, and the fact that any body with an Internet connection and a web browser can edit its comments, add articles, ideas etc.








Images and graphic Formats:



Image and graphic files are either uncompressed or compressed files. Some of famous compressed & uncompressed image formats and a brief about origin and capabilities.


BMP(Bitmap):

The Oldest graphic formats for Bitmap image files are uncompressed and these files are the original image files format developed by Microsoft along with windows during early 1990’s. Although their file name extensions are different, they all refer to the same type of image files.


TIFF(Tagged Image File Format):


Its very large high resolution image format create by Aldus Corporation during early 1990’s. This is used mainly for exchanging image documents between different applications and different computer platforms. It was primarily designed to become the standard format, but it did not become one.



GIF(Graphic Interchange Format):


This is the most common graphics file format on the Internet. The .gif extension stands for Graphics Interchange Format. CompuServe developed this image format in the late 1980’s. The idea behind designing gif files was to create the smallest possible image file for uploading and downloading from electronic Bulletin Board Systems (BBS).



JPG/JPEG (Joint Pictures Export Group):

It is the most popular compression standard USED FOR Photos and still images. The .jpg is short for JPEG, Joint Picture Expert Group. JPEG files can be viewed on any platform as long as there is a JPEG viewer like MS Paint, Photo Editor Etc. This format was standardized bi ISO in August 1990.


PNG (Portable Internet work Graphics):

This PNG format was designed to replace the older and simpler GIF format and, to some extent, the much more complex TIFF format. On 15 Jan 97, PNG spec 1.0 released as proposed by Thomas Boutell of Unisys. This format offers better compression rates than GIFs, and no loss of information like JPEGs. But they are not supported by many browsers and applications and hence not that popular.
